ISTANBUL, Turkey, January 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Turkeys leading GSM operator, Turkcell (NYSE:TKC ; ISE:TCELL), welcomed the new year with two consecutive records. On New Years Day, Turkcell subscribers sent more than 59 million peer to peer messages. Compared to New Years Day in 2005, the number represents 19% growth. On January 10, 2006, Turkcell subscribers set a second record. The first day of the religious holiday was the day with the highest SMS traffic with approximately 90 million peer to peer messages, representing 43% of increase when compared to the last year.
