Karen Neuburger Survey Shows That While Natural Disasters Prompt Americans to
Give More -- They Dont Plan on Donating Time
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The majority of Americans feel
a greater need to spread comfort to those less fortunate this holiday season
but dont expect them to donate their time. Only 8 percent are actually
planning to volunteer the gift of time this season, according to a new
national survey by the KN Karen Neuburger company.

When the KN Karen Neuburger Holiday Comfort Survey asked if individuals
plan to give more because of the recent natural disasters, 65 percent of
respondents said yes compared to nearly 36 percent who said no. Of those who
said yes, 34 percent plan to give a financial donation to disaster relief and
nearly 60 percent plan to donate to organizations such as Toys for Tots and
food banks. A mere 7.9 percent said theyd personally volunteer at a place
such as a shelter or food soup kitchen.
"Americans have seen the country rocked by natural disasters and while
they feel a great need to spread comfort to them, it turns out that time is
the precious commodity and something most just cannot give," said Karen
Neuburger, lifestyle designer for the KN Karen Neuburger brand known for
making Oprahs favorite pajamas and a variety of comfort-inspired fashions and
home merchandise.
Of those not planning to give more this holiday season, only 23 percent
cited increased heating costs as the reason why, while nearly 58 percent said
they wont give more because of personal financial difficulties. Fewer than
20 percent said they plan to save versus spend more this season.
While people may struggle with over-extended schedules, most find the
greatest comfort in spending time with loved ones. In fact, 63 percent of
Americans surveyed ranked spending time with family as the number one thing
that will bring comfort during the holiday season, followed by health and
wellness (25 percent), safety and security (7 percent) and volunteering to
help others (4 percent).
"When all is said and done, we are a society that is recharged and
rejuvenated by the people that we love," Neuburger said. "Wealth for many
comes not from the pocket book, but rather from our personal relationships."
For the past ten years, the KN Karen Neuburger brand has spread comfort
through sleepwear, home merchandise and other comfort fashions. In addition,
the company has hosted Girlfriend Getaway events and pajama parties and has
been an active partner with nonprofits such as The Breast Cancer Research
Foundation, First Book, which promotes childrens literacy, and WomenHeart to
name a few.
Survey Methodology
A total of 1,000 online interviews were conducted among a nationally
representative sample of adults 18 years of age or older in the U.S. The
survey was fielded by Synovate of Chicago, Ill., from November 1-4, 2005. The
sample consists of individuals selected from the online segment of Synovates
Consumer Opinion Panel, and is balanced to be representative of the general
population based upon region, gender, age and household income data from the
