What
is Well Person Screening?
This
screening programme is not health
surveillance i.e. it does not assess health in relation to
job risk.
Well
Person Screening is a programme centred round the employee's health
and lifestyle that is completed in the work place. The screening
includes such health issues as heart disease risk factors (diet,
exercise habits, smoking, alcohol consumption, weight, family
history), and aims to give employees information to enable them
to make healthy lifestyle choices.
Employees
complete a health questionnaire in advance of their appointment,
providing the nurse with information on which to focus. A range
of simple tests provides employees with additional information,
and health education literature is made available to each employee.

What
happens if abnormalities are found?

found, the significance of the result is explained to the employee,
and they are given a letter to take to their own doctor, who is
responsible for their health care.
What
report does the employer get?
Individual results are confidential to the employee, but the employer
gets an anonymised report outlining general results and identifying
any recurring themes that may be relevant to employee health management
in the future.
