TAKHOMACARD(R) Gift Card Sales Provide Much-Needed Food Donations INDIANAPOLIS, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Steak n Shake Company today announced it will be donating 396,864 STEAKBURGER(TM) patties to local food banks through its third-annual partnership with Americas Second Harvest -- The Nations Food Bank Network. Steak n Shake donated one STEAKBURGER patty to Americas Second Harvest for each qualifying TAKHOMACARD purchase. "We greatly appreciate the generosity of Americans during the holiday season," said Peter Dunn, president and CEO of The Steak n Shake Company. "It is a shining example of the American spirit to help the hungry after a year of trials such as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita." From November 1 through December 24, the casual dining restaurant chain donated one STEAKBURGER patty to local Americas Second Harvest Member food banks for every $5 in TAKHOMACARD gift card sales. Steak n Shake has worked with Americas Second Harvest, the nations largest domestic hunger-relief organization since 2002, donating patties to individual food banks in the communities they serve. The Americas Second Harvest Network secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of donated food and grocery products annually, supporting approximately 50,000 feeding agencies nationwide. In 2005, Steak n Shake donated 402,304 patties to Americans in need through the holiday gift card program; these patties were distributed directly to local families through 59 local food banks in 18 different states. For the promotion, Steak n Shake offered two new designs of TAKHOMACARD gift cards. The cards are a quick and easy way of giving friends and family the gift of STEAKBURGER sandwiches, real-milk Milk Shakes, or any other item available on the menu. The Steak n Shake gift cards are easy, affordable options to have on-hand for babysitters, postal carriers, teachers, neighbors, nieces/nephews, co-workers or friends. The cards are available at all Steak n Shake restaurants, which are located in 20 states and can be redeemed for any menu item at any of its more than 450 locations. During 2005, Steak n Shake also donated 750,000 STEAKBURGER patties to the Americas Second Harvest Network for distribution to the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Steak n Shake serves a distinct segment in the mid-scale, casual dining group of the restaurant industry, featuring a core menu of STEAKBURGER sandwiches, thin and crispy French fries, chili, and real-milk Milk Shakes. Additional menu items include fresh salads, chicken sandwiches and other specialty sandwiches, home-style soups, and desserts. Steak n Shake restaurants offer full service dining areas, counter service, and drive-thru windows. Unlike fast food restaurants, all food is freshly prepared, cooked to order in view of the guests and served to their tables by friendly wait staff 24 hours a day. The Steak n Shake Company is one of the oldest restaurant chains in the United States.
