Distinguished Presenters, Awards and Entertainment Highlight Agriculture
Celebration
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Live music, awards and
distinguished guests will be part of an event recognizing Pennsylvanias proud
agricultural heritage on Farmer Day, Wednesday, Jan. 11, as part of the 90th
annual Farm Show in Harrisburg.
State Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff today invited the public to join
him in the Large Arena at 11 a.m. to pay tribute to Pennsylvania agriculture
and celebrate the 90th anniversary of the largest indoor agricultural show in
North America.
"Pennsylvania has a rich, proud history, and agriculture has been its
foundation from the beginning," Wolff said. "The Farm Show is a terrific way
to showcase our achievements and look to the bright future of farming in our
commonwealth. Were expecting a great turnout for Farmer Day. Its going to
be a memorable event."
Orion Samuelson, a nationally known agricultural broadcaster and speaker,
will help celebrate the Farm Show anniversary as he entertains and inspires
with From Reaper to Satellite, the story of agricultural evolution. Samuelson
is best known as the host of U.S. Farm Report, a nationally syndicated show
that has been broadcast from WGN Radio in Chicago since 1960.
Samuelson also narrates this years Farm Show video, "Pennsylvania: An
Agricultural Tradition for Generations." The video highlights the vital role
agriculture has played in Pennsylvania and the efforts being taken to preserve
that legacy. The video features a welcome from Governor Edward G. Rendell,
testimony from three generations of Pennsylvania farmers and a look to the
future of agriculture.
The "Nine Decades of Pennsylvania" competition will feature displays by
FFA members from nine schools, each illustrating 10 years of Pennsylvania
agriculture. Secretary Wolff will present the awards for the competition
during the Farmer Day festivities. Winners of the FFA competition will
receive up to $1,000 in premiums.
The 90th anniversary Pennsylvania Farm Show runs Jan. 7-14 and will
welcome more than 400,000 spectators to the nearly 1 million-square-foot Farm
Show Complex. The Farm Show features some 6,000 animals, 10,000 competitive
exhibits and 300 commercial exhibitors. In addition, more than $370,000 in
premiums will be offered to exhibitors. Admission is free. Parking is $5.
