State Supports Creation and Retention of 1,181 Jobs
171 GAT projects in 2005 result in commitments for more than 16,500 new jobs
HARRISBURG, Pa., Dec. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G.
Rendell today announced the investment of $6.4 million in seven companies that
are relocating, consolidating or expanding operations in Pennsylvania,
creating at least 435 new jobs within three years and retaining another 746
existing jobs.
"We are investing in companies that could have located anywhere, but chose
Pennsylvania," Governor Rendell said. "We are supporting business that are
expanding and adding new jobs in communities all across the commonwealth.
"We are using our resources to invest in our people, businesses and
communities, an investment that will pay solid dividends in the future,"
Governor Rendell said. "Our efforts already are producing results as our
economy continues to grow, and there are more jobs in Pennsylvania than at any
time in our history."
"This has been a great year for our job creation and business development
efforts," Governor Rendell said, noting the Governors Action Team
successfully completed 171 projects with commitments for 16,523 new jobs and
the retention of nearly 35,000 others. To assist the job creation efforts,
the state has invested more than $324 million and leveraged more than $1.5
billion in private sector investment for the commonwealth.
"The number of Pennsylvanians employed in November rose to 5,730,100,"
Governor Rendell added. "Thats the third month in a row the job count has set
a new record. Our continued investment in projects like these will help
trigger even more job growth across the state."
The following projects were announced today:
Columbia County
Montgomery Laboratories Inc. will create at least 73 new jobs within three
years by relocating its Newburgh, New York, operations to Pennsylvania. The
company, which manufactures products used in the food, cosmetics, dietary
supplement and pharmaceutical industries, has moved its operations to a
facility in Berwick. The Berwick Industrial Development Association worked
with Montgomery Laboratories to help the company secure a $473,000 financial
package through the Department of Community and Economic Development that
includes a $200,000 loan through the Small Business First program, a $100,000
Opportunity Grant, $100,000 in Job Training Assistance and $73,000 in Job
Creation Tax Credits. The total cost of the project is $1.19 million.
Erie County
PSB Industries Inc. will create 21 new jobs within one year and retain 45
existing employees by renovating several bays at its West 12th St. facility in
Erie. The company has also purchased new computer equipment and is expanding
its working capital to accommodate new sales in its core dryer business. PSB
Industries manufactures large custom gas purification equipment that is sold
worldwide. The company also provides warehousing, sandblasting and painting
services. The Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership assisted PSB
Industries in obtaining a $1.45 million package through DCED that includes a
$751,500 loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority,
$450,000 in Enterprise Zone Competitive funding and up to $250,000 in
Enterprise Zone Tax Credits. The expansion project is expected to cost $2.8
million.
Lackawanna County
DiMare Fresh will create at least 34 new jobs within three years upon
construction of a 90,000-square-foot warehouse in Scranton. The company, which
provides tomato products to customers nationwide, will also retain 85 existing
employees. DCED offered the company an $188,000 financial package that
includes a $60,000 Opportunity Grant, $60,000 in Job Training Assistance and
$68,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits. The total cost of this project will be
$6.03 million.
Lancaster County
The Jay Group will create at least 78 new jobs and retain 369 existing
employees by consolidating operations from five separate Lancaster County
locations into two newly constructed facilities in Leola and a
warehouse/distribution facility in Elizabethtown. The marketing fulfillment
companys services include distribution, co-packaging, branded promotions,
outsourcing, rebates, IT/web development and an inbound call center. The
Economic Development Company of Lancaster County helped The Jay Group obtain a
$2.32 million financial package from DCED that includes a $2 million PIDA
loan, a $50,000 Opportunity Grant, $200,000 in Customized Job Training and
$78,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits. The total cost of this project will be
$36 million.
Lycoming County
Pennram Diversified Manufacturing Corp. will create at least 31 new jobs
within three years by adding a second facility to its operations. The small
municipal and medical waste incinerator manufacturer will also retain 46
existing employees. The company will purchase new equipment, including
overhead cranes, for its new operation. Industrial Properties Corp. assisted
Pennram Diversified Manufacturing Corp. in its efforts to secure an $848,000
funding package from DCED that includes a $480,000 PIDA loan, a $225,000 MELF
loan, a $50,000 Opportunity Grant and $93,000 in Job Creation Tax Credits. The
expansion project will cost $1.46 million.
Schuylkill County
Krammes Group Inc. is expanding its existing operations in St. Clair and
will create at least 20 jobs within three years. The company, which customizes
truck bodies for medium duty vehicles such as emergency vehicles, utility
service trucks, newspaper trucks and mechanics vehicles for railroads, will
also retain 40 existing employees. Krammes has increased the size of its
existing 7,000-square-foot facility by adding 6,750 square feet of space. The
expansion project will enable the company to handle a larger volume of orders.
The Schuylkill Economic Development Corp. helped Krammes Group obtain a
$115,000 financial package from DCED that includes a $50,000 Opportunity
Grant, $25,000 in Customized Job Training and $40,000 in Job Creation Tax
Credits. The total cost of the project is $955,000.
York County
Precision Custom Components LLC will create at least 178 new manufacturing
jobs within three years and retain 161 existing employees by expanding
operations at its current facility in York. The company, which specializes in
highly machined steel casks for spent nuclear reactor fuel rod containment,
launch systems aboard naval aircraft carriers and other engineering and
manufacturing products and processes, is expanding operations at its existing
250,000-square-foot facility and purchasing additional equipment. The York
County Economic Development Corp. assisted Precision Custom Components in its
efforts to secure a $1 million package from DCED that includes a $500,000 MELF
loan, a $300,000 Opportunity Grant and $200,000 in Customized Job Training.
The companys expansion project will cost approximately $3.35 million.
