SUBWAY(R) Restaurants Helps with a First-Ever Hotline, a Month of Motivational Calls, and -- of course -- Fresh-Made, Low-Fat Sandwiches MILFORD, Conn., Dec. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- How is it that Americans seem to get a grip on their wallets, but not on their waistline? According to a survey sponsored by SUBWAY(R) restaurants, more than 60 percent of Americans find that resolutions to exercise and eat healthy are the hardest to keep versus resolutions to decrease debt and increase quality time with friends. By Valentines Day, two-thirds (65%) of Americans say they have broken their New Years resolutions. However, relief is in sight. With almost 60 percent of Americans stating that getting help from an expert would help "some" or "a great deal," SUBWAY(R) restaurants, members of the American Dietetic Association (ADA) and weight-loss icon Jared Fogle have teamed up to launch Fresh Resolutions -- a program designed to support Americans as they make resolutions to lead a healthier lifestyle in the new year. This January, the team is providing Americans with a variety of resources to help keep their weight-loss resolutions including our first-ever "resolution hotline" and an innovative opt-in daily telephone contact program to help motivate people to stick to their goals. "New Years Eve is a time when most Americans resolve to make positive changes in their lives," said Columbia Universitys associate clinical professor of Population and Family Health, Audrey Cross, Ph.D., J.D., M.P.H. "Theres that sense of renewal and rebirth, and the guilty awareness of how much they ate during the holidays. When it comes to losing weight and staying healthy, setting reasonable goals and staying focused are two very important factors to help successfully shed the extra holiday pounds and maintain those weight loss resolutions." With the Fresh Resolutions program, people can receive advice on how to set realistic goals and motivation to stay focused. From January 2 to January 8 between the hours of 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. EST, consumers can dial in to the "Fresh Resolutions Hotline," 1-877-NOW FRESH (877-669-3737), and receive free support, advice and resources from ADA nutritionists. In addition, starting on January 2, people can visit http://www.subwayfreshresolutions.com and sign up to receive free daily telephone reminders and motivational recordings from Jared throughout the entire month of January. Jared will also be offering his "live" support to people randomly selected from the opt-in caller list. As an added incentive, from January 2 to February 19, for every visit to SUBWAY(R) restaurants, consumers will receive a Fresh Resolutions instant win game card. For a chance to win from hundreds of daily prizes, consumers simply register their game code online at http://www.subwayfreshresolutions.com . Even if they dont win instantly, every game participant is automatically entered in a Grand Prize Sweepstakes. A different Grand Prize** is featured weekly including Bally Total Fitness(R) and Blockbuster Online(R) memberships, all-inclusive vacations to a Beaches Family Resort(R), a $5,000 Chase(R) savings account and $5,000 in free CITGO(R) gas. In addition SUBWAY(R) restaurants is offering a donation to the American Heart Association** for everyone who registers to play the game (up to $40,000). For complete Official Rules and additional details go to http://www.subwayfreshresolutions.com in January. "I know how hard it is to lose weight and maintain an active lifestyle. But I didnt do it alone and others dont have to either," said Jared Fogle, SUBWAY(R) spokesperson. "Staying motivated took a daily commitment to myself and the support from family, friends and experts. Now, through the SUBWAY(R)s Fresh Resolutions support program, I want to help people stick to those resolutions of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle in January and throughout the rest of the year." Jared became a spokesperson for SUBWAY(R) restaurants after shedding a remarkable 245 pounds exercising and eating low-fat sandwiches from the submarine sandwich franchise for lunch and dinner for about a year. Now maintaining a weight of 190 pounds at 62", Jared has become an inspiration for tens of thousands of others who have gone on their own diets after hearing of Jareds incredible weight-loss success.* For people seeking low-fat alternatives to fast food that will help them stay true to their New Years resolutions, SUBWAY(R) restaurants offers its 8 Under 6 offerings: eight sandwiches each with six grams of fat or less. Other statistics from the survey: -- Equal proportions of men and women say that food-related resolutions are the hardest to keep. -- However, keeping New Years resolutions about exercising are considered to be more of a problem by women (41%) than by men (33%). -- Younger Americans (age 18 to 34 years) are the most likely to have broken their resolutions by Valentines Day (74%); 46% of which have already broken their commitments by coin toss on Super Bowl Sunday. -- Among adults 45-54 years of age, 67% feel that an expert would help them a "great deal" in keeping with their New Years resolutions. -- Women and people living in metro areas are also particularly receptive to getting help from an expert. -- Resolutions are hardest to keep in Southern and Northeastern states.
